Since working on the Jacob’s Ladder series in 2020, I have been revisiting a small work I did in 2003. I recognized Jacob’s Ladder in that mixed-media drawing. When I did it, it was vague, and I did not fully understand its meaning, but now the ladder has become much more transparent from the drawing. It is a story of whole and fragmentary images connected to my life and painting over time.
This creative passion, including my artistic process and life, shapes my journey under God’s grace and providence. It is a life and artistic sign God gives me to shape my life path. It is also similar to Jacob’s life journey. In the Old Testament, Jacob’s Ladder foreshadows Jesus Christ. - Chong Chu. April 5,2025
